Players Journal Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Franklin Golf Lab, LLC, a Tennessee limited liability company ("Franklin Golf Lab," "we," "us," or "our"). They govern your use of Players Journal by The Tournament Code, including our website at playersjournal.com, our web app, and our text message journaling program (together, the "Service").
By creating an account, checking the acceptance box at signup, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy and SMS Program Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Please read Section 15 (Limitation of Liability) and Section 16 (Indemnity) carefully. They limit our liability and your remedies.
1. What the Service Is
Players Journal helps junior and college golfers keep a post-round journal by text message. After a round, we send a short series of texts asking about the round (for example, a 1-5 rating, "Tiger 5" counts, good shots, a mistake, what you would do next time, a practice focus, and an optional scorecard photo). We organize your replies into journal entries, tag them, and generate written summaries. You can view your journal in the web app.
The Service is a journaling and reflection tool. It is not a coaching, training, medical, or instructional service.
2. Eligibility and Accounts
Minimum age. You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. We do not permit anyone under 13 to use the Service or create an account.
Players under 18. If the player is 13 to 17 years old, a parent or legal guardian must create the account and is the account holder. The parent or guardian:
- accepts these Terms on their own behalf and on behalf of the player;
- gives consent for the player's mobile number to receive Service text messages;
- pays for the subscription; and
- is responsible for the player's use of the Service.
References to "you" in these Terms include both the account holder and the player, as context requires.
Players 18 and older may create and hold their own accounts.
Account information. You agree to provide accurate information, including the player's correct mobile number and age, and to keep it up to date. You are responsible for activity on your account and for keeping your login credentials secure. Tell us promptly at info@franklingolflab.com if you believe your account has been accessed without permission.
One player per account. Each account is for one player. Do not share an account between players.
3. Subscriptions, Free Trial, Auto-Renewal, and Refunds
Free rounds. New players may journal their first 3 rounds free. You will not be charged until you start a paid subscription.
Plans and prices. Current prices are:
- Annual: $99 per year
- Monthly: $12.99 per month
- Founding member annual: $79 per year, available for a limited time or to a limited number of subscribers as we describe at signup
Prices are in U.S. dollars and do not include any applicable taxes.
Automatic renewal. Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period (monthly or yearly) at the then-current price for your plan, and we will charge your payment method on file unless you cancel before the renewal date. If we change the price of your plan, we will notify you in advance by email, and the new price will apply at your next renewal after the notice.
How to cancel. You may cancel at any time from your account settings in the web app or by emailing info@franklingolflab.com. Cancellation stops future renewals. Unless you qualify for a refund below, you keep access through the end of the period you already paid for.
Refunds. If you cancel within 48 hours after a purchase or a renewal charge, we will refund that charge in full. Outside that 48-hour window, payments are non-refundable, and we do not provide refunds or credits for partial billing periods or unused time, except where required by law.
Payments. Payments are processed by Stripe. By subscribing, you authorize us (through Stripe) to charge your payment method for the subscription and each renewal. If a payment fails, we may suspend the Service until payment is made.
4. Text Messaging
The Service sends and receives text messages (SMS and MMS) through our program number. Text messaging is governed by our SMS Program Terms, which are part of these Terms. In short: message frequency varies (about 3-5 messages per round played), message and data rates may apply, reply HELP for help, and reply STOP to opt out at any time. Opting out of text messages will stop the core journaling feature.
5. AI-Generated Content
We use artificial intelligence models to organize your replies and scorecard photos into journal entries, tag them, and write summaries and insights ("AI Output"). You understand and agree that:
- AI Output may be inaccurate or incomplete. It may misread a reply or scorecard, misstate a number, or draw a conclusion you disagree with. Review your entries and use FIX or the web app to correct them.
- AI Output is not coaching, instruction, or medical advice. It is not a substitute for a qualified coach, trainer, physician, or mental health professional. Do not rely on it for decisions about health, injury, training load, or safety.
- No guarantee of results. We do not promise that using the Service will improve your scores, rankings, recruiting outcomes, or performance.
You are responsible for how you use AI Output.
6. Coach Sharing
A player may be linked to one or more coaches. When a coach is linked, that coach can see the player's journal entries by default, including ratings, written reflections, summaries, and scorecard photos.
The player, or for players under 18 the parent account holder, may turn off coach sharing or remove a coach link at any time in account settings. Once sharing is turned off, the coach will no longer be able to view past or future entries through the Service, but we cannot recall anything a coach already downloaded, copied, or saw.
Coaches who use the Service agree to use player information only to support that player's development and to keep it confidential. We are not responsible for a coach's actions.
7. Tournament Results
We may pre-fill your journal with round results that appear on publicly available tournament results pages (for example, Clippd Scoreboard). Pre-filled results may contain errors or may not match your round. You can correct them. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by those results providers unless we say so.
8. Your Content
"Your Content" means the replies, notes, ratings, scorecard photos, and other material you submit to the Service.
You keep ownership of Your Content. You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, process, display, and transmit Your Content, and to create AI Output from it, only as needed to operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Service and to provide it to you and to coaches you have linked. This license ends when Your Content is deleted from our systems, except for copies kept in backups for a limited time or as required by law.
You confirm that you have the right to submit Your Content and that it does not violate anyone else's rights.
9. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- use the Service if you are under 13, or let a child under 13 use it;
- enter a phone number you are not authorized to enroll, or sign up another person without their (or their parent's) consent;
- submit content that is unlawful, harassing, threatening, sexually explicit, or that infringes someone else's rights;
- upload photos of people other than as incidental to a scorecard photo;
- attempt to access other users' accounts or data;
- interfere with, overload, probe, scan, or reverse-engineer the Service, or bypass any security or usage limits;
- use automated means (bots, scrapers) to access the Service; or
- resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Service without our written permission.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
10. Our Intellectual Property
The Service, including its software, design, text prompts, question sets, the "Players Journal" and "The Tournament Code" names and logos, and all related content (other than Your Content), is owned by Franklin Golf Lab or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. We give you a limited, personal, non-transferable, revocable right to use the Service for its intended purpose while your account is in good standing. "Tiger 5" is used descriptively to refer to a commonly used golf scoring framework.
If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them without any obligation to you.
11. Third-Party Services
The Service relies on third-party providers, including for text messaging, hosting, AI processing, and payments. Your use of certain features may also be subject to those providers' terms. We are not responsible for third-party services we do not control, and mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
12. Termination
You may stop using the Service and close your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you violate these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Service. If we discontinue the Service for reasons other than your breach, we will refund any prepaid fees for the unused portion of your current billing period. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including Sections 5, 8, 10, and 13 through 18) will survive.
13. Changes to the Service
We may add, change, or remove features from time to time. We will try to give notice of changes that materially reduce what you pay for.
14. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE AND ALL AI OUTPUT ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE, THAT TEXT MESSAGES WILL BE DELIVERED ON TIME OR AT ALL, OR THAT AI OUTPUT OR PRE-FILLED RESULTS WILL BE ACCURATE.
15. Limitation of Liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW:
- FRANKLIN GOLF LAB AND ITS MEMBERS, MANAGERS, EMPLOYEES, AND CONTRACTORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, LOST DATA, OR LOSS OF OPPORTUNITY (INCLUDING RECRUITING OR COMPETITIVE OPPORTUNITIES), ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
- OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE OR THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.
16. Indemnity
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Franklin Golf Lab and its members, managers, employees, and contractors from any claims, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from (a) Your Content, (b) your misuse of the Service, (c) your violation of these Terms, or (d) your enrollment of a phone number you were not authorized to enroll. For players under 18, this obligation belongs to the parent or guardian account holder.
17. Governing Law and Venue
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Tennessee, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising out of or related to these Terms or the Service will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Williamson County, Tennessee (or, for federal court, the federal district and division that includes Williamson County), and you and we consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.
18. General
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and SMS Program Terms, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. These Terms replace all prior versions of the Players Journal terms, including those issued by First Principles Performance LLC.
19. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify the account holder by email or in the web app before the changes take effect. Continuing to use the Service after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not agree, cancel your subscription before the changes take effect.
