Players Journal Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 24, 2026 Effective date: October 24, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Franklin Golf Lab, LLC ("Franklin Golf Lab," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use Players Journal by The Tournament Code, including playersjournal.com, our web app, and our text message journaling program (the "Service").
This policy replaces all prior Players Journal privacy policies, including those issued by First Principles Performance LLC.
1. Information We Collect
Account information. Name of the player and, for players under 18, the parent or guardian account holder; email address; player's age or birth year; school, team, or graduation year if provided; login credentials.
Mobile phone number. The player's mobile number (and the account holder's, if different), plus records of SMS consent: the date, time, method, and wording of the opt-in, and any opt-out.
Journal content. Your text replies to our journaling questions, such as round ratings, "Tiger 5" counts, good shots, mistakes, what you would do next time, practice focus, and any corrections you make. This also includes the journal entries, tags, and summaries we generate from your replies.
Scorecard photos. Photos you send by MMS or upload. Scorecard photos may include other players' names or scores if they appear on the card.
Event and round information. Event schedules you enter, expected finish times, and round results. We may also pre-fill scores using results published on public tournament results pages (for example, Clippd Scoreboard).
Coach links. The names and contact details of coaches linked to the player, and the player's sharing settings.
Payment information. Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not receive or store your full card number. We receive limited information from Stripe, such as the card brand, last four digits, expiration date, billing ZIP code, and transaction status.
Usage data. Information about how you use the web app and messaging program, such as pages viewed, login times, message timestamps, delivery status, device and browser type, IP address, and similar log data.
Communications. Messages you send to our support team.
2. How We Use Information
We use information to:
- provide the Service, including sending journaling texts after rounds and building your journal;
- structure, tag, and summarize journal entries (see Section 3);
- pre-fill round results;
- share entries with linked coaches according to your settings;
- process payments, renewals, cancellations, and refunds;
- respond to HELP requests and support messages;
- honor opt-outs and keep records of consent;
- maintain, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the Service;
- send account and billing notices by email; and
- comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.
We do not use journal content to send advertising.
3. AI Processing
Your text replies and scorecard photos are processed by Anthropic's Claude AI models, which we access through Amazon Web Services (Amazon Bedrock). The models read your replies and photos to organize them into journal entries, tag them, and write summaries.
Based on our understanding of these providers' current terms, the data we send through Amazon Bedrock is not used by Anthropic or Amazon to train their AI models. We will update this policy if we learn that changes.
AI-generated summaries can contain mistakes. You can review and correct your entries at any time.
4. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
We share information only as follows:
- Service providers (processors) that handle data on our behalf and under contract, only to provide the Service:
- Telnyx - sending and receiving text and picture messages;
- Amazon Web Services - hosting, storage, and AI processing through Amazon Bedrock (using Anthropic's Claude models);
- Stripe - payment processing.
- Linked coaches. A coach linked to a player can see that player's journal entries by default, including ratings, reflections, summaries, and scorecard photos. The player, or the parent account holder for players under 18, can turn off sharing or remove a coach at any time in account settings.
- Legal and safety. When required by law, subpoena, or court order, or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is needed to protect the rights, property, or safety of a person or of Franklin Golf Lab.
- Business transfers. In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to this policy's protections.
- With your direction or consent.
SMS and mobile information
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties, excluding aggregators and providers of the text message services (such as Telnyx). All other categories of sharing described in this policy exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent.
5. Minors
The Service is designed for junior and college golfers, so some players are minors.
- Under 13. We do not permit children under 13 to use the Service, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Consistent with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), if we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us information, contact us at info@franklingolflab.com.
- Ages 13-17. A parent or legal guardian must create the account, act as the account holder, consent to text messages to the player's phone, and pay. The parent account holder can access, correct, export, or delete the player's information and control coach sharing.
6. Data Retention
We keep account and journal information for as long as the account is active, so you can keep building your journal. If you delete your account, we will delete or de-identify your personal information within 90 days, except:
- consent and opt-out records, which we keep for at least 5 years to show compliance with messaging laws;
- billing and transaction records, which we keep as required for tax and accounting purposes; and
- copies in backups, which are overwritten on a regular cycle of up to 35 days.
7. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and hosting with a major cloud provider. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and text messages travel over carrier networks we do not control. Please do not send sensitive information (such as medical details or passwords) by text.
8. Your Choices and Rights
You (or the parent account holder for players under 18) can:
- Access your information and journal through the web app or by contacting us;
- Correct entries by replying FIX, editing in the web app, or contacting us;
- Export your journal in a common, portable format;
- Delete your account and personal information;
- Control coach sharing in account settings; and
- Opt out of texts at any time by replying STOP.
To make a request, email info@franklingolflab.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
9. State Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, state laws (including those in California, Tennessee, and other states with consumer privacy laws) may give you additional rights, such as the right to know what personal information we collect, to obtain a copy, to correct or delete it, and to opt out of the sale of personal information, targeted advertising, or certain profiling. We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising. Some of these laws may not apply to a business of our size; even so, we will honor the rights described in Section 8 for all users. If we deny a request, you may appeal by replying to our decision or emailing info@franklingolflab.com with "Privacy Appeal" in the subject line.
10. Where Data Is Processed
We are based in the United States and process and store information in the United States.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify the account holder by email or in the web app before the changes take effect. The "Last updated" date shows when this policy last changed.
